Strawberry Galette - Valentine's Day Special Dessert

Looking for a quick and easy dessert to whip up for your special someone this Valentine's Day? Look no further, because this rustic, beautiful Strawberry Galette is what you need!

This buttery, flaky, melt-in-your-mouth pastry filled with delicious sweet strawberries is sure to win hearts! (And of course, some extra brownie points for you *wink*)



Sliced strawberry galette


Ingredients:

For the pastry-

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/4 tsp salt

50gm unsalted butter (cold, cubed)

2 tbsp ice-cold water (approx.)

For the filling-

50 gm fresh strawberries (thinly sliced)

1 tsp cornflour

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

For brushing and garnish-

Milk

Granulated sugar

Sweetened condensed milk (optional)


Method:

  1. Mix together flour, brown sugar, salt well, and rub in cold, cubed butter with your fingers.

  2. When it's all nicely incorporated, add 1tbsp ice-cold water and mix well to form a dough. Do not knead.

  3. Add more water if required, to form a tight dough.

  4. Cover it with cling wrap and let it rest in freezer while you prepare the filling.

  5. For the filling, chop fresh strawberries into thin slices.

  6. To it, add brown sugar, cornflour, vanilla extract and mix till you don't see any cornflour bits.

  7. Remove the pastry from the freezer and start rolling it out on a parchment paper.

  8. When it's around 1/4 inch thick, spread the strawberry filling over it, leaving 1 inch gap all around.

  9. Fold the pastry along the edges over the filling, creating a round rustic pie.

  10. Brush the edges with milk and sprinkle granulated sugar over it.

  11. Pre-heat your oven to 180C, and while it's preheating, rest your galette in the freezer to firm up the butter.

  12. Bake the galette for around 40-45 mins until golden brown.

  13. Drizzle with some condensed milk, slice, and enjoy it while it's still warm!
